A nickname for Scranton is Steamtown, derived from its role as a historic railroad hub through the turn of the 20th century. Steamtown National Historic Site offers a variety of options depending on your available time, from train rides to self-guided tours to museum visits! Golf Excursions

If golf is your thing, there are a number of nearby public courses where you can enjoy the rolling hills of NEPA in their full fall colors at a relaxed pace. Get a group together and spend some time outdoors!

If you're looking for something a bit more indoors - especially depending on the weather - the Electric City Aquarium might just be your answer! While a bit on the smaller side, this Aquarium + Reptile Den is a great way to spend an afternoon!

Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour

If there were a list of "you know you grew up in NEPA if...," this would be under "school field trips!" 

A historic tour of the No. 9 Coal mine, this is geared towards all ages. Located right next to McDade Park, it makes a great picnic lunch companion!
